Game Recap
First Period
The Pats started tonight’s game with their new Captain on the ice as Colton Jobke donned the ‘C’ for the first time. The veteran made a quick impact in the first as the Pats were forced to kill off four powerplays. The penalty kill was strong, only surrendering a few scoring chances, and helped the Pats reach the first intermission in a 0-0 deadlock.
Second Period
Colton Jobke made his presence felt again in the second period as he got the Pats on the board three minutes in. Trent Ouellette won the draw back to Jobke who beat Bolton Pouliot on a low wrister inside the far post to put the Pats up one. The Rebels would have an answer though, as Matt Dumba’s Hail Mary pass found Colton Mayor in all alone. Mayor pulled a nice backhand move to get around Matt Hewitt and move the contest into a draw. Penalties were a theme in the first two periods as the Pats went into the final frame with a minute left on their sixth powerplay of the night.
Third Period
It didn’t take long for the Pats to regain control of the game in the third. Chandler Stephenson found Dyson Stevenson in the slot for a one timer that Stevenson fanned on. He grabbed the puck off the rebound and laced it to the back of the net to get the Pats up again. The Rebels pushed the desperation button and after some Pats got tangled up with each other at the blue line, Devan Fafard ripped home a shot from the faceoff circle to even up the game once again. The contest looked destined for overtime, but with 15.4 seconds left, Stephenson would seal his second first star nod in a row as he slammed home the rebound to give the Pats a 3-2 win and their second victory in a row.
Matt Hewitt came up large for the Pats again, making 27 saves in the victory. The penalty kill finished the night killing off all six penalties against on the evening.
