Game Recap
First Period
It was a solid road period for the Pats as Lane Scheidl tallied his fifth goal of the season to give the Blue and White the lead midway through the opening frame. The powerplay goal held up as the only marker in the opening twenty as Teagan Sacher held the Ice off the scoreboard even after taking a puck up under his mask late in the period. The Ice outshot the Pats 9-5 in the first.
Second Period
The Pats found themselves under attack from Kootenay early, but didn’t buckle under the pressure. Colten Mayor knocked down a bouncing rebound and lifting a backhand behind Mackenzie Skapski to put the Pats up two just a couple minutes into the middle period. Things locked down for most of the frame until the final minutes when the game busted wide open. After both goalies and sprawling defenders turned away a couple of opportunities, Mayor set up Scheidl on a two-on-one for the veteran’s second of the game to give the Pats a 3-0 lead heading to the final frame.
Third Period
The Ice pressed, trying to get back in the game, but Sacher was on top of things, keeping the Pats up 3-0. As the third rolled along the Pats had a few chances to add to their lead but Skapski made a few great saves, especially on a pair of shorthanded breakaways for the Blue and White. Time ticked down and when zeroes stood on the clock, Sacher had turned away 28 shots for his first career WHL shutout and the Pats snapped their five game road losing streak and moved to 1-1-0-0 on their latest road swing.
