Pats 3 - Prince George 4 SO
The Pats jumped to an early lead, scoring on two of their first three shots. Lane Scheidl struck twice to give the Pats the 2-0 lead. Morgan Klimchuk assisted on Scheidl’s second goal to stretch his point streak to seven games while Alex Theriau grabbed a helper as well to get his first point as a Pat. Matt Hewitt protected the Pats lead, making 12 saves in the opening period.
The Second period saw four goals end up behind the keepers. The Cougars started things off with 15-year old Brad Morrison scoring his first WHL goal to cut the lead to one. The Pats would restore the two goal lead when Morgan Klimchuk one-timed an Emil Sylvegard cross-net pass behind Mac Engel. The Cougars weren’t put off, though, as they stormed back with Carson Bolduc cutting the lead down once again, scoring right off the draw. Prince George would erase the deficit completely with 27.5 seconds remaining on the clock when Jarrett Fontaine jammed a rebound by a sprawling Matt Hewitt to send the game to the third tied 3-3.
The final frame went back and forth as both teams tried to grab hold of the lead. Both goaltenders came up with some big saves and sixty minutes wouldn’t be enough to solve things as the Pats and Cougars went to overtime tied at three.
The Pats went toe to toe with the Cougars in the extra period with a couple of chances either way, but it wouldn’t result in a goal. Lane Scheidl got the Pats a lead in the shootout with an awkward goal where he almost lost the puck, but the Cougars would respond with two of their own and take this one 4-3 in the shootout.
