This is the first of four meetings between the Pats and Hurricanes this season. The teams split their season series in 2010-11 with each team winning once at home and once on the road. The Pats come into tonight’s matchup having earned a split in the first two games of their four game road swing. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes come off a 3-2 loss to Moose Jaw. Tonight’s game can be heard on 620 CKRM with the Press Box Sports Bar Pre-Game Show starting at 6:35.
Lead Up: Sacher Earns First WHL Shutout
Teagan Sacher picked up his first WHL shutout, making 28 saves in the winning effort. Lane Scheidl and Colten Mayor provided the bulk of the offence with Scheidl scoring twice and Mayor picking up a goal and an assist in the 3-0 victory. Scheidl’s powerplay marker in the first period stood up as the game winner.
Not So Under the Radar
Trent Ouellette’s quick start to the season hasn’t gone unnoticed as he was selected to play on Team WHL against Team Russia in the Subway Super Series. Ouellette has fourteen points in fourteen games to go with a +7 plus/minus rating.
Fitting Right In
Colten Mayor is promptly adding offence to the Pats lineup. Mayor has three points in the last two games and is finding quick chemistry with linemates Lane Scheidl and Emil Sylvegard.
Who’re you Calling a Backup?
Rookie Goaltender Teagan Sacher has two wins in his last two starts including Wednesday’s shutout victory. In his last three starts, Sacher has only allowed five goals on 74 shots. He also ranks ninth in the league in goals against average (2.83).
Of their fourteen games this season, eight of the Pats’ contests have been decided by only one goal. The Pats hold a
4-3-1-0 record in these close matches. Regina has yet to participate in a game decided by two goals.
- Over the last four seasons, the Pats hold a 7-7-1-1 record against Lethbridge
- With an assist Wednesday, Tye Hand has already eclipsed his single point total in 25 games of Junior-A last season
- Emil Sylvegard is on a three game point streak (1G, 2A)
